About Me

Pursuing Excellence

One of my favorite quotes is "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." I have always made it my personal goal to be the hardest working person regardless of the task. Oftentimes, I look at this quote from two different perspectives. The first, in that while some may be more talented than myself, I can succeed if I take advantage of the opportunities given to me through hard work and dedication. Secondly, I realize that I have been blessed with some unique talents. However, I must keep in mind that someone who is less talented might outwork me and capitalize in areas where I fail to succeed through diligence. I have always been a perfectionist and want to be the best at whatever I am attempting to accomplish. This drive to succeed and pursuit of excellence in every area of my life is what I believe to be my most noteworthy characteristic.

Team Type 1

I am currently a Team Type 1 Global Ambassador. TT1 Foundation was established with the mission to “instill hope and inspiration for people around the world affected by diabetes.” Team Type 1 provides scholarships to collegiate student athletes with type 1 diabetes that show leadership characteristics both through their management of living a diabetic lifestyle as well as through their respective sport. I founded Diabetes Awareness Night and raised over $1,000 for Team Type 1 Foundation with a 50/50 raffle at our home opener last season. I have also engaged in spreading awareness by sending letters to state representatives about the costs of living with diabetes and the need for proper health care. In an effort to encourage other type 1 diabetics, I spoke at a camp for newly diagnosed patients in Columbia, MO last summer. I do my best to live â€‹a positive lifestyle for other diabetics and have attained an a1c of <7.0 since my diagnosis in 2013. This disease has taught me patience, diligence, and how to take responsibility. It has also given me an excellent platform to share my story and encourage, motivate, and inspire people sharing the same disease.

Tim Tebow Foundation

Through my diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, I was given the opportunity to meet, talk, laugh, eat, pray, and workout with Tim Tebow, former Heisman Trophy winner, through a part of his foundation called the W15H Program. This program's mission is to "bring faith, hope, and love to people in their darkest hour of need." This experience did just that. It inspired me to dream big, achieve more, and love others similar to the way Tim does. Since then, I have participated twice in an event known as Night to Shine, a prom night for people with special needs. This event opened my eyes to how to show love to everyone, regardless of who they are or what they look like. After these events, I was inspired to get a summer job that incorporated this same theme. For the past two summers, I have worked at the Summer LIFE Program in which I have been a counselor for youth pursuing an occupation in the community after their high-school graduation. The Tim Tebow Foundation brought faith, hope, and love into my life and I am motivated to do the same in the lives of those around me as well.
